Filing in Class 2
This class is narrower than people expect: it's the paint and coating material itself, not painting services (that's Class 37) or artists' paintings as artwork (Class 16 for the physical print, Class 41 for the creative service). Printing inks sit here too, which surprises applicants who assume ink belongs with stationery in Class 16.
The USPTO charges a base application fee of $350 per class under the current fee schedule (as verified on 2026-07-07) — Class 2 is billed the same as every other class.
